In an apparent effort to cut down video piracy ahead of the release of his production venture Kabali, producer ‘Kalaipuli’ S. Thanu has petitioned the police requesting them to block some film-based websites making pirated movies.
Video piracy has been playing havoc with the film industry for the past few decades. Pirated CD/DVDs of new films are ironically available in the market within a few days of the film’s release in theatres, thus robbing the film producer, theatre-owners and distributors their right to earn profit via film-making.
Now that superstar Rajinikanth’s Kabali is to hit the screens in a week’s time from now, Thanu is bound to take extra precaution to ensure that no pirated version of the film is available at least for the next few weeks. Thanu prepared a list of such film-based websites offering pirated CD/DVDs and has handed over the list to the Chennai Police Commissioner requesting him to block those websites from operating.
Can we hope that the cyber crime branch of the police would make it (blocking such websites) a permanent fixture?
