In a first-of-its-kind effort, some star hotels in Bangalore have overtaken their contemporaries in Chennai and elsewhere in showing the ‘Rajini fever’ on the eve of release of superstar Rajinikanth’s much-awaited Kabali this Friday (22nd July).
Unlike in Tamil Nadu where Kabali releases in record number of theatres, Bangalore (native city of the superstar) has gone a step ahead and has decided to release Kabali in some prominent star hotels. For the first time in the history of Indian films, a film would be released in a hotel, which is a clear indication of the Kabali fever which has gripped the entire country.
Crown Plaza at Electronic City, Royal Orchid at Yalahanka, Lalith Ashok at Kumarakrupa Road and J.W. Marriott at Vittal Mallya Road are the selected star hotels where Rajini’s Kabali is to be released on Friday coinciding with its release in theatres worldwide on the same day. Distributors have been busy securing the necessary approval from concerned authorities for screening the film in hotels.
Sanction of police and fire authorities and few civic bodies is essential to screen a film in a place other than a theatre which mandatorily possess all such clearances. ‘Rockline’ Venkatesh, who produced Rajini’s Lingaa in 2014, has acquired the release and distribution rights of Kabali in Karnataka and has transferred the rights to Gokul Raj, another leading distributor. It’s Venkatesh’s idea to release Kabali in star hotels.
“If we get the desired approvals, we would be screening four shows a day for three days on 22, 23 and 24 July at these star hotels. Ticket is priced at Rs.1300 and would be available on website. Arrangements would be made for 300 persons to sit comfortably and watch the film with good sound effects,” says Anand, who is busy getting necessary clearances from concerned authorities.
