Santhanam’s last outing ‘Dhillukku Dhuddu’ turned to be a decent grosser in box office. After a long hiatus, he is back in lead role for ‘Sakka Podu Podu Raja’. The film is directed by actor Sethuraman. Vaibhavi Shandilya plays the female lead role with Vivek, Sampath, VTV Ganesh and Robo Shankar in important roles. STR has composed music for this film, which marks his debut in this new avatar.
Synopsis
Santa (Santhanam) is rich guy with happy-go-lucky attitude and falls in love with a beautiful girl (Vaibhavi Shandilya). Later as she reciprocates her love, the hurdle comes in the form of her elder brother (Sampath), who happens to be a dreaded don. How Santa manages to win the heart of her brother and get united with his ladylove forms the crux of story.
Analysis
Expect nothing, even the least level and you’ll have something to enjoy with this film. But it doesn’t mean that you’ll be bounded to laughter riot throughout the show. The film’s plot is too old-fashioned as it turns to be more predictable. Sethuraman completely banks his hopes on the witty lines that are sparked in places by Santhanam and Vivek. The first half moves out in decent pace and second half takes slightly dragging. The film would have been a much better enjoyable show, if the director had avoided over exhibition of heroism upon Santhanam. Overdosed action sequences and lots of songs turns out to be putting barricades for the progression of screenplay. The episodes with one liners and trial and error humour are enjoyable. Couple of songs by STR are very well received with good picturing too.
Performance
Although Santhanam tries to achieve the status of heroism, we get to enjoy only his one liners and time comedy. Yes, he has done a hard work with dancing and action sequences, but he has to improvise a lot with the romantic quotients. Maybe, it’s because we have thoroughly enjoyed Santhanam as a comedian for years that we slightly fail to relate him as a hero. Vivek has offered his best in routine style and yes, his one liners work out at best. VTV Ganesh and Robo Shankar have nothing much to perform though they appear in many places. Although Power Star appears only in couple of scenes, he just leaves us in complete hilarious riot. Sampath has done justice to his role in both sentimental and situational comedy sequences. Vaibhavi Shandilya has nothing to perform than appearing in glamorous quotients.

Overall, Sakka Podu Podu Raja might appeal to the interest of those audiences, who just walk into theatres with least expectations for time pass experience. With a stereotypical story and narration, comedy sequences of Santhanam and Vivek work out in places.
Verdict : Too stereotypical and predictable, but enjoyable in few places
